Race Five Report – Silverstone National

Team Trackspeed ClioSat 6 September 2014

Clios battle in Silverstone rain

The Silverstone National was a good place to be in a race Clio for round five of the 2014 season as Paul Ivens and Adam Langeveld beat Aaron Harding and David Slater to the win.

Qualifying

It was an all-Guest Class top five, but James Bird and Andrew Stacey who took pole in their MINICooper S Challenge by the smallest of margins. Jeremy Hayman and Mark Penny, in Class B in a Vauxhall VX220, almost snatched top spot but came up just 0.016s shy of the Bird and Stacey benchmark.

Troy Dunlop and William Norman lined up alongside the VX220 in their BMW E36, lapping the Silverstone National circuit just 0.043s slower. The first of the Clios, piloted by Harding and Slater, claimed fourth alongside Geoff Conner in another of the Clios.

The Class D pole went the way of Nick De-Jesus in the BMW 318i Compact, comfortably clear of the line-astern Giles Billingsley and George and Jack Wright. Pole in Class E was secured by Adrian Timpson.

Race

The pouring rain helped the Clios of Ivens/Langeveld and Harding/Slater (both built by Aarons Autos Motorsport) to rocket to the front, utilizing their front-wheel-drive to leap-frog the heavier machinery in front of them on the grid.

Both passed the guest-appearing Nissan 370Z of the 2014 GT Academy racers, and Ivens/Langeveld coped best with the conditions to ease away from the similar Clio behind.

The safety car was scrambled when the Mark Astall and Craig Bunting-shared BMW E36 spun at the exit of Woodcote, finishing midway down the old pit straight resting on the pit wall.

Battles raged throughout the field on the restart, and an intriguing chase was commencing at the Clio Race Carhead of the field after the pitstops. The guesting Nissans soon switched places, and a David vs Goliath fight began. The looming Clios forced the once-leading Nissan into a mistake after taking chunks out its lead to move into second and third on the road. Ivens and Langeveld had to be mindful of their mirrors too, managing the gap back to Harding and Slater.

The Mondeo ST220 of Charles Angrave and Mark Witherington almost broke the Clio monopoly, but Gordon Cooper had just enough of a cushion to make it an all-Clio top three. The two cars were also able to catch and pass the former leader, the second of the Nissans.

Gary Johnson impressed in his SEAT Ibiza R to take the Class B win, just ahead of the Ian Brent-Smith and Steve Lyons BMW E30. Johnson made up seven places on the opening lap, and then soon passed the Class B-leading Hayman and Penny VX220. The VX220 lost out to the BMW just after the safety car interruption to be demoted to third.

Nick De-Jesus’ giant-killing continues, claiming eighth and a third Class D victory of the year. Mark Tranter became the first car in Class E to beat Adrian Timpson, his Citroen Saxo picking up 18th place.

Aarons Autos Motorsport Teams dominate at Oulton Park

Aarons Autos Motorsport

Aarons Autos Performance Motorsport had all three of their race teams at Oulton Park Race Track last weekend for the MSVR Team Trophy race and boy they did not disappoint.

Aarons Autos Performance Motorsport Clio

Exploding Fist Racing had a great start in Class B with a blistering 2.00.950 minute qualifying time putting them in second place on the grid (in Class B) only 0.5 seconds behind the leader in their Class.

Team Trackspeed UK also managed to qualify in second place for Class C beating their team mates Norfolk n Chance by 0.02 seconds who ran into problems of there own after the gear linkage decided to bend during Aarons second lap of qualifying meaning he was unable to put in any faster times, all he could do was carry out his mandatory three laps and get the car back to the paddock to assess the damage.

After straightening the damaged linkage it was obvious that it would not be strong enough for the race so it was decided that a three hour round trip back to Aarons Autos was required to weld and strengthen the linkage, leaving only half an hour spare to refit the linkage and get to the holding area for the start of the race! Talk about a race against time!!

Chris Hoey started the race for Exploding Fist and managed to get a significant lead on his Class cars before handing over to Darren Langerveld who carried on pulling away from the other Class B cars giving him a thirty second lead before the car started to misfire! with the help of the huge lead and Darren’s sympathetic driving they managed to cross the line in first place for class B.

Then it came to Team Trackspeed and Norfolk n Chance in Class C, Paul Ivens Got a great start putting him straight into first place in class leaving Aaron Harding from Norfolk n Chance way behind stuck behind a couple of Class B cars, seeing this as a challenge Aaron made his way through the pack chasing down Paul for first in class, after several fast laps (including beating the Class C lap record) Aaron found himself nose to tail with Paul, a couple more battling laps and it was time to pit and hand the cars over to Adan Langerveld for Team Trackspeed and David Slater for Norfolk n Chance.Aarons Autos Winners

Due to a great pit stop from Norfolk n Chance they managed to get out before Team Trackspeed putting them first in Class, Adam didn’t like this and subsequently chased after Dave like a man possessed, unfortunately for Team Trackspeed this meant a very brave overtake manoeuvre into shell causing Adam to cut across the grass and damage the rear wheel bearing as he dropped back onto the track so all Dave had to do was finish to win Class. Adam managed to limp the Clio round the track for several laps to take second in class.

Motorsport Specialists

So two First places and one Second place, not bad for a weekends work. Watch the video below to see the footage from the Norfolk n Chance Clio.

Aarons Autos has 3 teams at Rockingham and take a WIN!!

Aarons Autos Race WinnersRockingham qualifying went ok, Norfolk n Chance managed 8th out of 31 with team trackspeed just ahead by 0.400 seconds in 7th and Exploding Fist in pole position. Unfortantly for Exploding Fist 6 laps in a water hose burst and they had to retire. Dave started for Norfolk n Chance and got another epic start going from 8th to 4th by the second corner but dropped to 5th by the end of the first lap. After a short battle with the VX220 we were in 5th with Paul from Team Trackspeed biting at our ankles then 13 mins in the excitement really started! Dave out braked himself into turn two letting Paul up the inside but hitting the side of us in the process, coming into turn 3 Dave had the line but then Paul got better drive up the hill into turn four but ran wide, Dave kept on the power and as Paul came back over he tapped Paul’s back end then Paul braked and Dave tapped him again and again sending Paul into a spin hitting us on the way round and giving Dave the place back with a nice dent in the side of the car (remember rubbing is racing) . Dave then kept his position until the changeover to Aaron and we didn’t cock up the pit stop this time. Aaron had a couple of great battles with the VX220 and Adam of Team Trackspeed but he managed to bring it home and we finished 3rd overall and 1st in class our best ever finish!!! We want to thank all our friends and family’s who came, our sister teams for being good sports and our sponsors for without them we wouldn’t be racing!!!

Norfolk N Chance at Oulton Park

NORFOLK N CHANCE RACE TEAMNorfolk N Chance Race Team took their Renault Clio to Oulton Park to compete in the second round of the MSVR Track Day Trophy.

After a great qualifying session and managing to qualify Second in class it was time to move on to the main event.  The team managed to finish First in class and Fifth overall but after an unfortunate fifteen second penalty for a short pit stop they ended up Second in class and Sixth overall (still a good result).

Team Trackspeed Renault Clio Aarons AutosTeam Trackspeed’s Clio made its 2014 debut at Oulton Park and after some great battling with the Norfolk N Chance Clio and the Steadman’s Race Clio they managed a Fourth in class and Ninth overall, A good result for its first competitive race.

Here is a video of the race from the Norfolk N chance Clio, look out for the Team Trackspeed Clio.
