Peugeot 107 Poor Heating on a Cold Winter Morning.

This little Peugeot 107 came into us on a cold January day with no cabin heater blowers, not the best time of year for the heating to fail!

After checking the fuses were OK we had to remove the top section of the dashboard to be able to access the heater blower motor and see if we had battery voltage there.

Once we new we had voltage up to the heater motor we now needed to remove said motor, this wasn’t as easy as it looked!

After removing the pedal box and lowering the steering column it was still a battle to remove the heater motor having to fight wiring looms and numerous brackets.

With the heater motor out of the car we could bench test it and clarify that it was faulty.

New heater motor arrives and time for the rebuild, basically reverse everything we did to strip the car to be able to remove the motor.

Now the new heater motor is fitted the customer is finally able to clear their windscreen on those cold January mornings without any problems.

Transit Custom Update For Better And Worse!

Ford has officially changed the replacement interval for Wetbelts fitted to most of its diesel vans as of February 2024.

The service interval for the timing belt on the EcoBlue engine has been reduced to 6 years or 100,000 miles from 10 years or 150,000 miles. This applies to the whole Transit range fitted with the 2.0 litre EcoBlue engine.

Ford’s statement –

The change in service interval poses a problem for fleet operators with longer Servicing intervals. One fleet manager told us they now face higher vehicle running costs and additional vehicle downtime to get the required service work carried out.

Ford has previously repaired a number of out-of-warranty vehicles that suffered from premature timing belt failure as a goodwill gesture.

Now the timing belt interval has been changed, affected vehicles that are between six and 10 years old pose a higher-risk of failure to owners and should have there Wetbelts replaced as soon as possible.

Failure to replace your Wetbelt could cause serious engine damage and possibly other faults such as Brake Vacuum Pump Failure and Turbo Failure.

2019 – 1.0 EcoBoost Engine – Better or Worse?

The new revision of Fords 1.0 EcoBoost engine was supposed to eradicate the problems of its predecessor, but it looks like it may still have some of the same issues!

Ford have finally changed the main drive belt to a chain which should eliminate the issues of rubber drive belts being damaged by the incorrect oil being added at service intervals.

But, Some very highly paid individuals at Ford with more mechanical knowledge than you or I decided that the oil pump should still be ran by a rubber belt!

That’s correct, after all the issues with the original 1.0 EcoBoost engine caused by oil degrading the drive belt rubber, they did it again!

Better or Worse?

So, if you own a 2019 or newer Ford with the 1.0 Ecoboost engine all is not lost.

As long as you listen to our advice as per the previous engine, Service, Service, Service and the correct oil.

Not just the grade but the spec, make sure the oil you use on your service has the correct additives to look after the rubber and not cause it to prematurely degrade.

Ford don’t actually give a service interval for replacing the timing chain and oil pump belt but we are still advising 80,000 miles or 8 years (whichever comes first).

We are seeing plenty of posts where people are ignoring the service intervals because they think this newer engine wont have the same issues and are finding out the hard way that servicing does indeed still matter!

For more information on either the older or newer engines please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
